Autistic Moms and Birthing People: Pregnancy and Postpartum Support

3rd Monday of the month at 9 PM ET

This free, virtual group is for Autistic Pregnant and Postpartum Moms and Birthing People (up to four years postpartum). Pregnancy and postpartum can be a challenging time for autistic people. Sensory sensitivities and increased unpredictability are just two factors that can make this time difficult. You may also face challenges with transitions, emotional regulation, and managing the sensory and social demands of parenting. Pregnancy and the postpartum period can bring unique and unexpected challenges, and we want you to know that you are not alone.

Our online groups provide a supportive space to connect with others, share experiences, learn practical tools and resources, and both give and receive encouragement. Groups are led by PSI-trained support group leaders with lived and/or professional experience navigating autism during the perinatal period.

Discussion questions will be sent 24 hours in advance via ShareWell (our registration platform) to help participants prepare, only if desired. Introductions are required (this is also the only time cameras are required), but sharing beyond introductions is optional.

A formal diagnosis is not required to attend.

See below for more of what to expect.

To ensure meaningful discussion, this group is limited to 12 participants. Please try to join five minutes early to secure your spot, as we close registration once the group is full.

Dates: Sept 9-Oct 28

Facilitator: Betsy Winter

What can I expect during a virtual support group?

This virtual support group will meet for 120 minutes each week and follow a structured, topic-focused format that builds from week to week.

Each session begins with a gentle centering practice and check-in.

We then introduce the weekly topic, offering trauma-informed and grief-sensitive education designed to support parents through the many layers and realities of sudden and unexpected loss.

From there, participants are invited into group sharing and facilitated discussion based on a topic-related question.

Groups close with reflective sharing, and when helpful, may include writing, creative expression, or embodiment practices to support integration and nervous system regulation.

How will this support group help me?

Pregnancy, infant, and child loss can feel deeply isolating. One of the most powerful parts of group support is realizing you are not alone.

You will be surrounded by others who understand the pain of this kind of loss and can offer connection, compassion, and community.

You will also receive guidance, tools, and resources to help you navigate grief and support your healing journey.

Grief Support 101: Navigating the Heartbreak of Pregnancy & Infant Loss

Pregnancy and infant loss can upend everything you thought you knew about yourself, your body, and your future. In the days and weeks after loss, grief can feel all-consuming—heavy, disorienting, and profoundly isolating—while the world around you keeps moving as if nothing has changed. This workshop offers a gentle, supportive space to help you begin navigating grief with compassion and care.

You’ll receive expert guidance on: Understanding common emotional responses after pregnancy or infant loss Navigating overwhelm, numbness, and waves of grief Caring for yourself in the midst of deep emotional pain Responding to others while honoring your own needs Finding moments of grounding when everything feels unsteady Throughout the workshop, you’ll be invited to reflect at your own pace—taking what feels helpful and leaving what doesn’t.

There is no expectation to “fix” your grief or move forward before you’re ready. This course is designed as a gentle companion in the early days of loss—a space to feel less alone, to tend to your heart, and to take small, compassionate steps as you begin to carry grief alongside you.

Honoring Your Loss: A Retreat for Bereaved Mothers

At the heart of Return to Zero is the Honoring Your Loss Retreat. Since 2014, we’ve hosted over 20 powerful gatherings for hundreds of bereaved mothers, each one a testament to the healing that becomes possible when grief is met with care, compassion, and community. This year marks our 11th time returning to Whispertree, a place we hold sacred. The land itself seems to know sorrow and invites deep restoration.

Honoring your loss means exactly that: creating space to truly honor your baby or babies, your grief, and your story. Our culture rarely makes room for this kind of openness. Here, your pain is understood without explanation. You can speak freely about your babies without worrying about making anyone uncomfortable.

In that shared understanding, something shifts. There is space for moments of peace, of lightness, even laughter, because you no longer have to carry the weight of grief alone or prove the depth of your loss.

And in that shared understanding, there is space for more—moments of peace, of lightness, even of laughter—because you no longer have to carry the weight of grief alone or prove the depth of your loss.

This November, we invite you to join us in Northern California for a soul-nourishing retreat designed for bereaved mothers who long to feel less alone in their grief.

You’ll be part of a small, supportive circle held in a cozy natural setting—with private or shared accommodations and all meals, workshops, and materials included.

  • Ceremonies to honor your baby/ies

  • Shared stories and community

  • Gentle movement and somatic healing

  • Evening art-making and ritual

  • Quiet trails and nourishing meals

This is a high-touch, immersive retreat for those early in grief—or those who feel they haven’t had the space to truly honor it.

Spots are limited to 19 participants. We hope you’ll consider joining us.

Finding Yourself After Loss Retreat

Distinct from the Honoring Your Loss Retreat, which gently holds the raw edges of early grief, Finding Yourself After Loss is a restorative experience for mothers who are further along in their grief journey. This retreat is for mothers who have done significant work in honoring their babies, losses, and grief and are now feeling called to the healing land of Whispertree—to slow down, nourish their bodies, turn inward, and reconnect with themselves and community in a new way.

Each year, Finding Yourself After Loss is thoughtfully reimagined with a unique theme, creating a space for alumni to return again and again, while offering fresh layers of support for wherever you are in your journey.

We recognize that grief is not a single chapter but a long, winding path that changes over time. Our goal is to meet you there—year after year—with offerings that feel relevant, nourishing, and deeply attuned to your growth, healing, and becoming.

Meet Retreat Facilitators

We’ve scheduled the following Meet the Facilitators virtual gatherings and hope you’ll join us:

This Year’s Theme:

Rooted Again: Reclaiming the Body After Loss

This year, we are exploring what it means to gently return to the body after loss. Not through a deep dive into everything that’s hard or painful about our relationship with our bodies—but through spacious, accessible practices that invite kindness, curiosity, and connection.

This retreat is an invitation to come into a more compassionate, embodied relationship with yourself, in a space that honors your story, your pace, and your ongoing healing.

Whether it’s your first time or your third, this year’s retreat will meet you where you are—and help you return more fully to who you are becoming.

Over the course of our days together, you will:

  • Be nourished with delicious, lovingly prepared meals each day

  • Spend unhurried time outside in nature, surrounded by beauty and quiet

  • Move, breathe, and rest through gentle, body-based practices like yoga and sound healing

  • Share authentic connection and heartfelt conversation with other bereaved mothers who understand

  • Laugh, cry, stretch out, let go

  • Relax and receive—no roles to play, no mask to wear

  • Take space away from everyday life to just be

  • Remember what it feels like to be held, supported, and fully human

What to Expect During the Week:

Each day will offer a rhythm of restoration, reflection, and connection, with a variety of optional activities to meet you where you are. You’ll be encouraged to follow what feels good in your body and spirit.

Included throughout the week:

  • Optional yoga and movement classes to support grounding, embodiment, and gentle awakening

  • Restorative somatic practices to soothe the nervous system and reconnect with your inner rhythm

  • Nature-based experiences, including unhurried hikes, time outdoors, and spaciousness to simply be

  • Small group discussions with other bereaved mothers for deep, authentic connection

  • Delicious, community meals prepared with care—time to gather, share, and be nourished

Grieving Together: Strengthening Your Relationships After Pregnancy and Infant Loss

Pregnancy and infant loss affects more than just the individual - it reshapes the emotional landscape of a couple’s relationship. Grief can deepen connection, but it can also create distance, misunderstanding, and emotional overwhelm.

In  this 60- minute workshop designed specifically for couples, we’ll explore the complex impact of baby loss on relationships and offer practical insights and strategies for navigating grief together. With compassion and honesty, we’ll look at how grief may show up differently for each partner, common relational challenges, and the importance of creating space for both shared and individual experiences.

This is a supportive space where both partners can feel seen, understood, and better equipped to walk this path—side by side.

We highly recommend that couples attend together.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss (Birthing Parent) August 2025

This six week closed virtual support group is for birthing parents who have experienced loss through infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth, terminations for medical reasons, or infant death, whether more recently or in the past.

The group will meet on Tuesdays at 5:00 pm-6:30 pm PDT/8:00 pm-9:30 pm EDT from August 5th - September 16th, 2025. Please note: There will be no session on August 19th.

Facilitators: Bethany Allen

What can I expect during a virtual support group?

  • Virtual support groups are 90-minutes in length, with the exception of the session, Share Your Story, where we ask 2 hours be set aside.

  • Our groups are topic focused and structured in a way that builds on content from the previous week.

  • Every session has a similar flow. Each group starts with a guided meditation or body-centered mindfulness practice.

  • The topic of the week is introduced, which includes some education.

  • Then there will be group sharing in response to a topic-related question and facilitated discussion.

  • Groups end with a period of reflective sharing. Where relevant, the group may be led in writing, creative expression, or embodiment exercises to support resource building and integration.

How will this support group help me?

  • These types of losses are very isolating—you will learn that you are not alone.

  • Our hope is that you will find community with others who have similar loss experiences.

  • By sharing your story, your loss experience is witnessed by others in a supportive and non-judgmental setting.

  • You never imagined you’d be in this situation. You will receive guidance and resources for your grieving journey.

Cost: $150 ($25/session)
